i hate that it’s been so long since i’ve done a good update.
i’m sorry.

life has been pretty good…i don’t really have any complaints…other than the gross burn on my arm…i’ll show you in a bit.

i feel like i’ve had tons to blog about lately.  i’ve had tons of “oh i need to blog out this” moments…but of course now that i am actually blogging i can’t remember any of them.  typical.

i still like starbucks.  i love getting to know customers and i love joking and laughing with them…i’m sure it makes both of our mornings/days a little brighter.  here’s a recent story from work:  a couple weeks ago we ran out of sleeves (the cardboard rings that go around the cups).  people freaked out.  it was so ridiculous.  **side note:  you really only need a sleeve when you get a coffee drink or a drink made with hot water…the espresso drinks don’t really get THAT hot**  anyway we were double cupping the super hot drink and just passing out the other ones.  almost every single person would ask for a sleeve and when i told them we were out i got such silly reactions.  here’s a couple:  one guy was holding his cup while he asked for a sleeve then when i said we didn’t have any he set his cup down real fast and said that he couldn’t hold it because it was too hot.  another lady ordered a coffee so i double cupped it because those DO get really hot.  she was holding it and asked for a sleeve and i told her it was double cupped and she said it was still burning her hand and so i offered a third cup and she got pissed and drove off.  haha.  then several people did this:  held their drinks, asked for a sleeve, acted like their cup was on fire, then took a gulp of the drink as they drove off.  oh brother…if it’s not too hot for your mouth you can hold it in your hands.  people are just super dramatic and feel like the sleeves are a necessity but usually they aren’t and  i bet they all survived without one.  good thing the sleeve crisis was only for one day.

life has been good too.  we’ve just been hanging out with family and friends doing fun things.  typical but good things.

as you know me and casey’s 3 year anniversary was last week.  we went out to dinner at the bottle tree.  the food was AWESOME.  first we got jalapeno cilantro hummus and pita = delicious, i got a sandwich called the green goblin:  grilled veggie sandwich on wheat bread with havarti cheese and green apple pesto = amazing, we split cajun sweet potato fries too = so good.  i haven’t had food that good in a long time.  we have also eaten at v. richards a few times in the last few weeks and that place is awesome too.  love it…my two new favorite restaurants!

we also went to see the hangover.  it was funny and good.  we also went to the zoo.  it was good and SO SO HOT.  here are some more pictures:

the other night i cooked little margarita pizzas with our very first home grown tomato!  it was yummy!

now the rest of this blog gets a little graphic…so stop reading now if you don’t want to see my gross arm.  a week ago today i had a run in with my iron.  i turned it on to let it heat up while i was taking clothes out of the dryer.  after it was good and hot i backed my arm up on to the iron.  the skin-iron contact was like a split second.  but that’s all it took.  iron: 1, sheena: 0

so there’s that too.
it hurts so bad but it’s finally starting to heal up.  it’s pretty much all hardened over now.  it sucks and i can’t imagine what it feels like to get burned for real!  that was just from one second of my arm on an iron…so really it isn’t a bad burn…but it hurt so bad and i don’t ever want to know what it feels like to be burned with something hotter like fire and for longer than a second…yikes.
casey asked me to iron a shirt for him tonight…so i guess i’ll have round 2 with the iron…hopefully i’ll come out on top this time.  we’ll see.

one last thing and then i’ll give your eyes a rest.  this morning i woke up and went outside on the porch and it was so nice and so pretty out and i just felt so lucky and blessed to be alive and to live in a pretty house surrounded by pretty nature…and to have a wonderful husband and a great dog.  i love my life!

i had the day off this past saturday so i wanted to make the most of it.
we woke up around 8 to get an early start on the day.  casey took the doors and top off the jeep since it was such a nice day and then we headed to the pepper place farmers market.  the only thing i knew i wanted to buy for sure was sweet potatoes.  so i bought some of those as well as some big juicy blackberries and some summer honey from blunt county.  it is delicious!   casey got some mango sweet tea and it was also delicious.  oh yeah, bella went with us too and we all had a good time.

we also went to see UP! in 3D.  it was fun and such an adorable movie.  everyone should go see it…it was great.

saturday was also good because i got a sweet new toy!  i am actually using it right now!  to write this blog!  here it is:

it’s a mini HP netbook!  it’s so tiny and cute.  i really like the swirly pattern on the top too!  here’s some info about it: weight: 2.3 lbs, 1in thick, 8.9in screen, and it has a webcam too so i can video chat!  it fits just right in my purse.  i took it to work today since i get free wifi and used it during my lunch break.  it was fun.  in case you are wondering why i bought this, i’ll tell you.  a while back i bought an old apple powerbook from a friend for $100.  it’s been a great computer and has helped me through about a year and a half of school.  it was worth the money for sure…in fact, it’s usefulness definitely exceeded what i paid for it.  i did have some issues with it though…it was rather large, it didn’t latch, the cord was all messed up and had to be in a weird position in order to charge the computer, and without the cord the computer stayed charged for about 10 minutes (but…like i said…$100 dollars for a powerbook is an amazing deal).  these problems made it pretty hard to take it places like school, coffee shops, trips, etc.  in addition to these issues, recently it has been running really slow and i could just tell it was slowly fading and wasn’t going to live for much longer.  it was a good old thing…but i just needed something more convenient, mobile, and younger.  sooooo out with the old, in with the new!!  anyway…i am sure no one really cares about my new laptop…sorry if that was boring.  but i LOVE it!

happenings June 1, 2009

i FINALLY got my car back…after 18 days in a rental car.  ugh.  we ended up not having to pay a cent…which is wonderful.  esurance still sucks though…they acted like they were doing me a favor by paying to fix my car properly.  whatever.

work is still fun…and not having to do school is still super duper fun.  i love it!

one of the reasons i love when i get to work in the drive thru is because lots of people have their adorable dogs in the car with them.  there is a black pug that comes through everday named taloola…she’s cute and has bug eyes.  the other day i met a cute white little dog named barbie.  i also met an english bulldog named brisket.  good times.

this weekend was a good one.  the young adult retreat was good.  church was good.  the manchester orchestra concert was good.  good all around.

i just got back from a HOT 3 mile jog.  i do not recommend running at 5pm.  it is too hot…87 degrees…feels like 89 to be exact.  oh well…now i know better.

i feel like i always have things to blog about but then when i start to blog i can never remember.  i guess i’ll start writing things down when i think of them.

yesterday was a strange day at work.  i worked from 7:30 to 11:30.  i was on the main register for the first time.  i was excited because i haven’t done that yet…and i was excited to get a break from drive thru and bar.  but i quickly found myself wanting to go back to the spots that i knew what was going on.  no one really told me what i was responsible for while working the register.  obviously my main job was to take orders and money…but i wasn’t sure if i was supposed to be keeping up with the coffee brewing so i kept trying to do that and i was also trying to help drive thru and the bar.  i think i made it harder than it should have been because i was trying to do too much.  oh well.  yesterday was super busy too…busier than normal and its normally pretty busy.  we ran out of frappuccino base at like 9am and we normally don’t have to make more til around noon.  we also ran out of coffee a lot more often than we usually do.  it was crazy.

one thing i did like about working the front register was all the compliments i got on my hair. haha. i had many people tell me my cut and/or color was so cute and/or pretty.  one lady even asked if she could come back and take a picture of me to show her hair stylist.  i said i wouldn’t mind.

two other things happened at work yesterday: 1. i got punched in the face. 2. i got a frappuccino dumped on my foot.  it’s not as bad as it sounds.  i was behind zach trying to find something out and he turned around with an empty (thank god) cup in his hand and socked me in my eye.  it hurt but it was so busy i was just like “it’s ok just give me the cup” and he was like “i’m so so sorry!”  later on once it slowed down he apologized many times.  he was like “i’d feel bad if i punched anyone in the face but it was you and you’re just so little and no one could ever get mad at you.”  it was funny and i don’t have a black eye today so everything is ok.  then later on leslie dropped a bunch of frappuccino on my foot and it leaked through my shoe to my sock.  she felt bad and cleaned my shoe off.  it was funny too and not a big deal at all.  it was just not my (or anyone’s) day yesterday…we were all having an off day or something…it was just a bizarre day.

moving on…
after work i went to urban outfitters because i hadn’t been in forever.  i just wanted to scope out their sale rack.  i got a super cute shirt for $9.99 of course (it’s rare that i spend over $9.99 for any item of clothing).  i was even more excited about the shirt when i saw the original price…it was $98.00!  that’s like 90% off or something!  score!

tonight we are meeting up with our friend jason at our favorite bar.  jason moved to philly a while back and is back in town with his new fiance!  we are excited to meet her too.  they are staying the night with us and we’ll all have some good fun hopefully.

i need to clean up the house and do some kind of exercise and maybe even give bella a bath.  so here i go!

ps.  i just want to comment on american idol.  i did not watch a single episode this season (or from any other past season for that matter) but i’ve heard tons about the adam guy that’s in the final two and how everyone expected him to win and how apparently it was an upset that he lost.  well i just want to say that i saw some highlights from their last performances on the preview channel while trying to find something to watch this morning.  and just based on what i saw kris, the guy who won, should have won.  he was, hands down, a better singer.  adam seemed to be all show and looks…he was pretty and i think the media hyped him up to be better than he actually is/was.  so good job kris.

i can’t believe i just blogged about american idol.  sick.

so when i got hired at starbucks i asked my manager if i could wear my nose hoop.  she said i could.  i’ve been working at starbucks for a month wearing my nose ring.  the district manager has seen me wearing it many times without saying anything to me.  so today he came in and told me i wasn’t allowed to wear it.  it’s not that big of a deal that i can’t wear it.  i was just super annoyed that i was told that i could and then i wore it for a month and no one said anything to me and then the district manager had to tell me its not allowed.  it made me feel stupid.  he also told me i couldnt chew gum…that made me feel like i was in middle school…haha.  oh well.  he wasnt mad or anything he was just letting me know and i told him i was told that i could wear it so he would know that i wasnt just knowingly breaking rules.  like i said…im just annoyed that i was allowed to wear it for a month.

so ive had a rental car for like 10 days now.  its been fun but i am ready to have my own car back. the insurance company is being such a pain and refusing to pay for some of the simplest stuff that needs to be done to my car to get it back to pre-wreck condition.  SO annoying.  it better get worked out soon or im gonna have to get mean…and no one wants to deal with mean sheena because well, she’s mean.

hello there.
not much is new with me.
the snake i almost stepped on the other day was actually dead because it was there the next day in the same spot.  i poked it with a stick.  it was for sure dead…sad.

this morning the weather was awesome!  i got up and went for a jog.  i thought i ran 4 miles but then i started thinking it was more like 3.5 so i clocked it in the car and it was 3.6.  i ran the last 2.6  miles in the rain and it was sweet.  it felt so good.

anyway…i worked today from 2:30 to 9.  it was pretty slow but a good day at work.  my work schedule this week is pretty much maxed out.  here’s my schedule in case you want to come visit me
monday: 1 – 9
tuesday: 7:30 – 1
wednesday: 7:30 – 11:30
friday: 4:30 – 10:30
saturday: 8 – 4:30
sunday: 1 – 9
38.5 hours!  yikes!  i’m not too excited about working all through the weekend…but as long as it doesn’t happen every weekend i guess i can live with it.  i’m really liking it at starbucks…it’s a pretty good job and i’m glad that it is.

how is everyone today?
yesterday i went for a 4 mile jog.  i’m so glad it was cooler outside because i still got super hot and sweaty but if it hadn’t rained that morning it would have been so much hotter and uncomfortable.  there was a wonderful breeze that blew at the perfect times.  yay!  anyway on my jog i came within a foot from stepping on this:

it was curled up on the side of the road.  it scared me and made be jump!  we are both lucky that i didn’t squash it.

today was a good day.
here’s how it went: i worked from 7 – 1.  i was on the bar for the first time…during morning rush.  i was scared!  i think i did pretty good.  people said i did good so i will believe them.  i didn’t mess any drinks up or anything and i think i went pretty fast for my first time.  it actually made time go by really fast because i was making drinks constantly for the first 3 hours pretty much.  woot!  after work i came home to get bella to take her to the vet.  bella has really bad allergies so she has to get a cortisone shot.  she’s also been having ear trouble…turns out she has a yeast infection in her ears…ew.  so now i have to flush her ears once a day and put ointment in them twice a day.  wish me luck…she’s squirmy.  after that i took her to pet supplies plus for a prize.  she got a new long leash and a treat.  i love my little bean.  after that we came home and bella played outside while i did a workout.  then when casey got home we left to go to tuscaloosa to return some books to the UA library.  then we ate at mugshots.  it was delicious of course.  i got the same thing i always get: cajun grilled chicken salad.  casey got what he always gets: the pat-o cheese burger.  then we went to my work to get a drink and then we came home to watch the biggest loser finale.  it was good…and both winners were unexpected which made it exciting.  and now here i sit typing this post!

my car is in the shop at the moment getting fixed from the wreck i was in a few weeks ago.  i am currently driving a blue 2009 hyundai elentra.  its sweet…i wouldn’t mind keeping it.

tomorrow i get to go to the starbucks experience class with two of the other new baristas.  i’ve been told it’s really fun.  we learn about the company and get to do coffee tastings and stuff…it’s four hours long so i hope it’s a good time.  i’ll let you know.
