sorry it’s been a while.
this past saturday i ran a 5K. since i haven’t been working out much or eating that great lately, my only goal was to run it in under 30 minutes. i woke up about 45 minutes before the race, got dressed, and reluctantly left the house. i arrived with just enough time to say hi to casey and grab my number. by they way, it was so so cold that morning (35 degrees) and i didn’t have the proper gear, e.i. hat and gloves. my fingers were so cold…they swelled up almost double their normal size.
anyway, i ran the 5K in 29:13 (9:24 minute miles) and ended up getting 3rd place in my age group (20-29). it was kinda embarrassing though because my time wasn’t impressive at all. everyone in my age group was just slow…haha. the women in the 30-39 age group were super fast. i ended up getting 49th place out of 133 total runners and 19th place out of 74 women runners.
like i said, my goal was to do it in under 30 minutes and i did…so i’m proud of myself. i think i did pretty good for someone who’s not a disciplined runner and not really in the best shape right now.
in other news, i started a new job today!
i am working through a temp agency for a financial company. today went well and as far as i can tell, i think i’ll really like this job. i really like all 3 of my coworkers too! two things off the top of my head that i am exicted about are: 1. fridays are casual which means i can wear jeans AND we get to leave at 4 o’clock. 2. we share a building with some other people who do other stuff and one of the guys brings his dog to work! so we have an office dog: a black cocker spaniel named nate! he’s super cute and friendly and wiggly.
basically today was a good first day. i hope this job works out.
every other monday i do our tips at starbucks. “doing tips” consists of sorting coins and rolling coins, calculating tips by dividing the total amount of money for the week by the hours worked, and then taking all the rolled coins and bills to the bank to make the correct change for each person. the whole process takes about 2 hours…2.5 tops. anyway…this is what my fingers look like after sorting and rolling the coins. sick.
today at the jcc i noticed an old man. i see many old men at the jcc but what made me notice this old man in particular was his outfit. i so wish that i had had my camera.
outfit:
- bono type sports goggles (im guessing prescription) with a yellow tint
- short black shorts
- light blue satin shirt (form-fitting)
- AND best of all…a leopard print workout belt/back brace thing
it was AWESOME.
and contagious.
today i was driving to the library and got stopped at a stop light. i looked in my side mirror and saw the man behind me laughing with his hand over his mouth. i wondered what he was laughing at. i looked to see if there was someone else in the car. there wasnt. so he was either on his hands free phone or listening to something. he kept laughing harder and harder. then i started laughing because it was awesome that he was in his car by himself completely happy and laughing.
thanks for the laugh stranger…it made my day.
im proud of myself. i ran 3 miles without stopping. i haven’t done that in months. don’t get me wrong…it was hard and it hurt and it sucked but i wanted to prove to myself that i could do it. i did it alright…but now i won’t be able to walk tomorrow. oh well.
just the usual…working and hanging out.
here’s a story:
while we were in texas i noticed a blue string hanging out of bella’s butt (this is the second time this has happened. the first was with dental floss though. i had to pull it out of her butt). anyway…then i tried to pull the string out she yelped really loud so i just left it for a few hours hoping she’d be able to get it out herself. she couldn’t do it so i pulled again and she yelped. so we decided to take her for a walk to see if she’d try going to the bathroom. well she did and when she was pooping i strategically grabbed the string and pulled and it came out. and guess what was on the end of the string? A NEEDLE. she swallowed and passed a needle. what a crazy dog. im just so glad it went through and came out without doing any damage. she got lucky.
sometimes i think dogs over prepare you for children. hopefully i’ll never have to pull anything out of my kids butt…but if i do, then im ready. thanks bella!

oh brother.
to make casey proud…here’s my list:
5.
avatar – wowza. visually stunning. i really enjoyed the plot too. i was also fascinated by pandora and the navi. i left the theater wishing that worlds and people like that were real and that i could maybe run through a glow in the dark jungle and ride on a dragon one day. i think the first time you watch this movie the affect it has on you is amazing…it’s #5, though, because i question whether that affect will last into the years.
** there’s no #4 because there was a tie between the two cartoons. i loved them both for very different reasons…so it’s a toss-up.
3.
fantastic mr. fox – clever. funny. really neat looking. it was a wes anderson movie so you know it was a “cuss” good movie.
3.
up – everyone that saw this one knows why it’s here. it was such a heart warming movie. so precious.
2.
the brothers bloom – i love a good con movie…and this one was awesome. it had my attention the whole time. usually i can predict what’s going to happen in movies but not this one. it got me so good. it was suspenseful, sad, hilarious, and awesome. plus adrian brody is totally hot…in a totally weird way.
1.
away we go – i think this movie was an “upset.” i didn’t expect it to be that good and then it was wonderful, simple, and real. it was about an ordinary couple going through a strange transition in life. they questioned each other, themselves, their lives, and whether their choices would mess up their future. it just showed how life can be awesome and it can suck, it can be sad and it can be hilarious, it can seem clear and then get so confusing. i just liked it a lot. it was relevant. i think with all the fantasy movies and over the top stuff (see 4 movies above) these days it’s refreshing to see a movie about the ins and outs of everyday life.
there you have it.
